Starting June first filing for bankruptcy in Michigan is going to be a little bit more expensive. Not because I am charging more, but because the bankruptcy court is charging you more to file.
- If you file a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy after June 1st, 2014 the new filing fee is $335. This is over a 9% increase from the filing fee of $306.00 for cases filed prior to June 1st.
- If you file a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy after June 1st, 2013 the new filing fee is $310. This is over a 10% increase from the filing fee of $281 for cases filed prior to June 1st.
Other filing fees are also going up for Chapter 9, Chapter 11, Chapter 12, and Chapter 15 petitions, so the increases are across the board, however it’s the Chapter 7 and 13 increases that will affect my clients.
